Laser Cut Rocking Chair

This piece represented an exploration into Laser Cutting- an industrial process that the end user is not usually able to take advantage of. The bent_tab rocker incliudes the end-user in the process.
An algorithm of seating proportion would be offered to the user to manipulate based on his/ her proportions. The CAD file could would also have the additional possibility of pattern/ graphics cut into steel.

The CAD file, being open source, would offer the end user a chance to create a personal design based on the original.

The Rocking Chair is 3 pieces of Sheet Steel, made to ship flat pack and be assembled by the user using a unique slot and tabbing method. The tool for assembly- the brake- is cut from the same sheet of steel. Their would be the added advantage of being able to get a local vendor to laser cut the chair, decreasing the distance the product is shipped and allowing the opportunity to contribute to local manufacturers.
