Child's Sailboat
This project was based on recreating some of the simple wooden toys that were more prominent in prior generations. By introducing the idea of lamination and the use of the CNC machine, it was possible to produce something that could be part of a family of toys, with slight changes in the CAD file becoming quickly realized in the physical toy.
I will likely continue this project by experimenting with FSC certified wood that I could plane to a dimension suitable for laminating- to give the boats the necessary details with each level. It would also be possible to use better adhesives with this process (non-formaldehyde based glues). With a set, or family of objects, it would be easier to nest different laminate layers so that the CNC would produce as little waste as possible. There would also be the opportunity to screenprint simple graphics on the tyvek sails in batches that could be lasercut.
